A busy start to our new term in LSU 2

9th Jan 2025

We were delighted to welcome our pupils back this week to begin another busy term. As winter is evidently here now we have enjoyed exploring the frost and went on a winter walk up the Windmill Hill. The boys enjoyed exploring the windmill and spotting the snow on the Mourne mountains whilst crunching their feet in the frosty grass. On our way back down we noticed the path was slippery so we spread some grit and watched the effect it had on the frost. We also braved the cold to make our hand prints in the frost. As we knew the drop in temperature was forecast for the rest of the week we left one of our tuff trays out overnight to freeze some water. We had great fun cracking the ice and watching it shatter as we threw it on the ground.

For Sensory Cookery this week we opted for a savory snack that the boys could make at home... yummy pizza! This was a quick and easy snack that was savored, then it was on to the task of washing up - developing yet another life skill.

In Maths this week the boys completed some digit card investigations developing their problem solving skills along with practical tasks of coding BluBots to move in different compass directions.

With the frosty weather we haven't been able to play outside as much but this has afforded us the opportunity to explore more indoor play options. The boys have enjoyed some highly competitive chess tournaments and interacted together in various worlds on Minecraft Education.

We were delighted to begin our first hurling lesson this week with Fergal. This is a completely new sport to the boys and Fergal was very impressed with their skills and enthusiasm.

We are very excited for our trip to the Ulster Museum next week to end our topic of Ancient Egypt.
