A week of teamwork and discovery in our Specialist Provision!
30th Jan 2025
In our Specialist Provision one of the main aims is to develop our children's social skills and build friendships. This week we have set up a Lego Club where we each have roles such as the builder, supplier and engineer. We work together as a team to build Lego and swap roles within each session. This has taught the us great skills in co-operation and teamwork.
We were delighted to welcome some of our P4 friends to join us in playing Minecraft Education. Oscar showed great leadership teaching the other pupils how to build worlds and make various maneuvers. In his words 'team work makes the dreamwork'!
In our maths this week we have been learning all about division with and without remainders. We used apparatus to help us visualise the groupings and very quickly moved on to working out the divisions mentally without any additional apparatus. In our tuff tray we have been exploring length and comparing lengths. This was a fun way to explore and measure items around our classroom.
We love making new discoveries through our STEM work each week and on Tuesday we carried out an experiment where we made an egg float using salt. Cooper came up with an idea of how to make his own volcano using a water balloon. He was delighted with the results!
Sensory cookery is all about exposing our senses to new smells, textures and tastes. We also like to learn to make things that we are capable of doing at home. This week we made a tasty lunch of scrambled egg on toast. The smell certainly stimulated our taste buds but as you can see from the pictures the food was enjoyed!
Integration is key to our social development and this week we have enjoyed taking part in hurley lessons with our peers and on Thursday we joined in workshops to make St. Brigid's crosses. This is not an easy skill to master but we made them very successfully! We are also very excited about the auditions for 'The Lion King' this week and have been practising our lines very hard.
