A well deserved mid-term break!

6th Feb 2025
On Monday we celebrated Safer Internet Day by taking part in a special assembly in our new roles as Digital Leaders. This was a nervous experience for us as we were presenting to the whole school but we spoke really well. When we returned to class we completed a range of activities where we identified scams and learned about information we shouldn't share online.

Our new World Around Us topic is Fair-trade. This was a new concept to us completely and we have enjoyed learning about what fair-trade means. We studied the logo and spotted that it includes green and blue symbolising water and soil needed to grow many plants and also a person with a raised arm signifying that they are standing up for their rights. We then decided to walk to our local shops and see the variety of fair-trade products they have on offer. We were very surprised to see that some of the items were cheaper to buy fair-trade than non fair-trade, such as chocolate, tea and hot chocolate. This was also a great mathematical learning opportunity as we had to make sure the weights of the items were equivalent before we compared prices.

In our numeracy this week we used practical apparatus to help us visualise place value up to and including thousands using dienes. We have also started to learn about decimals using Numicon.

For STEM this week we enjoyed making a lava lamp with oil, salt and coloured water.

We were delighted to welcome some of our friends from P5 this week for Lego club and sensory cookery. Everyone enjoyed making yummy oaty biscuits. We used accurate measuring skills to weigh out all the ingredients before mixing them.

This has been another busy week for us and we are looking forward to our well deserved mid-term break!
