Active learning in our Specialist Provision
In our Specialist Provision we encourage our pupils to challenge their thinking and be creative. This engages their focus and develops their communication skills whilst learning. In STEM lessons we challenged the boys to build a bridge to hold toy cars using only paper and tape. The designs were very different and it was lovely to see the boys share techniques and strategies. Cooper also built a bridge using K’Nex to demonstrate a different style of design holding more cars.
We also enjoyed making oobleck in STEM and had great discussions about texture, consistency and states of matter. It was a messy lesson but that made it all the more enjoyable!
With the uplifting weather we have been having we took our learning out doors and for art this week we made sun catchers from natural materials. The boys enjoyed exploring our outdoor areas looking for interesting textures and colours. The completed sun catchers are on display on our window so have a look out for them.
A focus for Eco-Schools this term is healthy eating and we have integrated this in to our sensory cookery. The boys enjoyed cutting and preparing fruit to make fruit wands and apple & cheese pirate ships. They were delicious and very refreshing.
In ICT we have ventured in to the world of AI technology and have started to explore using Adobe Express to help us create posters to advertise fair trade chocolate bars. It was amazing to see the ideas the boys had come to life on screen.
We have been continuing to develop our social skills by working on ‘zones of regulation’ workshops. One of the activities in these sessions is playing board games around feelings and expressing times when we have had different feelings and how these feelings are displayed in our actions.
