Active Maths in P3 🧮🏃🏻♀️🌳
20th Sep 2024
In primary 3 this week, we have been getting active to help improve out mathematical skills. As we have been practising counting, adding and subtracting up to thirty, at the start of the week we completed some outdoor activities to aid our understanding. Some pupils used a tennis racket to collect thirty natural items. We ‘took away’ and ‘added’ items mentally and had to double check how many items that we had. We discussed how sometimes it takes a long time to count to thirty, so we could instead sort them in to smaller groups of 10 or 5.
Another group used digit cards and chalk to complete some addition and subtraction sums. Mrs Fowler was so impressed when one group corrected a mistake by finding a small bit of card and making the answer in to a minus number!
Finally, at the end of this week, we rolled out the eagerly awaited ‘Mathletics’ in school. The boys and girls logged on to computers and iPads using their new usernames and played a few games. They are looking forward to trying this out at home. Look out for usernames in Monday’s homework pack!
