Caterpillar to Butterfly: Our Amazing Journey

As part of our World Around Us topic of 'Spring', we are thrilled to inform you about a delightful project that our children in the Specialist Provision 1 will soon embark upon.

Over the coming weeks, they will have the unique opportunity to witness the miraculous transformation of caterpillars into beautiful butterflies. The children will be responsible for nurturing these five little creatures, observing their developmental stages, and caring for them as they transform. Once the butterflies are ready, we will take the learning experience a step further by releasing them into the wild. This special event will take place in our outdoor classroom, where the children will have the joy of watching the butterflies take their first flight into the open air. This hands-on experience will be an integral part of our life cycles study and promises to be both educational and enchanting. We look forward to sharing updates and pictures with you, capturing each stage of this fascinating journey.

Day One

The caterpillars arrived over the weekend, and we welcomed them to our classroom by giving them a tour. We sat around the horseshoe table and learned all about how they grow, and what we will need to do to help them thrive. We had a fabulous time trying to come up with names for the caterpillars, and it was decided to name them after fruits: Apple, Banana, Orange, Pear and Strawberry.
