Celebrating Reading in St. Mary’s
Well done to all of our children currently using the Accelerated Reading Programme.
After one term the children of St. Mary’s have read 800 books with a word count 6,703,727 and have an overall pass average of 87%. Accelerated Reader set the target for all schools at 85%. By reaching and surpassing this target, it tells us that the children understand fully what they have been reading. This is a fantastic achievement! Accelerated reading data also gives us an individual student average of 13 minutes spent reading every day.
Today in assembly we celebrated individual milestones for reading. Our landmark for reading certificates is when children reach 50,000, 100,000, 250,000, 500,000 and 1 million words.
Well done to all those children who collected certificates today, many of whom are already close to their next milestone. Many of our pupils who did not receive certificates today are very close to their first, keep reading and keep aiming for those milestones.
Thank you to all our parents who continue to encourage and support their child’s reading at home. This is invaluable for the development of your child’s literacy skills.
