Counties Galore in P6
As part of our ‘Know your Ireland’ topic, we undertook a ‘counties galore’ project where we picked one of the counties of Ireland and prepared a project on it. We were given some general pointers like population, famous people, interesting facts, county crest etc. We were allowed to present our project any way we liked. Some children wrote their project and added illustrations, some typed on Microsoft word and added images and graphics and others presented theirs on a PowerPoint with transitions, animations and music!!
Mrs Breen was so impressed with the quality and standard of the presentations that she decided to award some prizes. To make the competition fair, she invited local historian and retired school teacher Mr Gerard Lennon in to hear the children present their work. He had an extremely difficult job and while Kobi got the £10 book voucher for his presentation on Co Galway and Belle received a beautiful book of Irish fairytales, myths and legends for her presentation on Co Armagh, all of the P6 children received Cadbury’s heroes as both Mrs Breen and Gerard think that is exactly what they are!!
So much cross curricular learning from literacy, maths, ICT, geography and history to art and music!!
