DΓa de Los Muertos in P6 ππΊπΉπ·π·
In P6 we love to learn about different cultures and the experiences that children all over the world have, both today, and in the past.
As it is coming up to Halloween we decided to look at the Día de Los Muertos “the Day of the Dead” holiday which is celebrated in Mexico. This holiday, which is on November 1 and 2, is like a family reunion—except dead ancestors are the guests of honor. Day of the Dead is a joyful time that helps people remember the deceased and celebrate their memory.
There are carnivals and parades where people make skeleton masks called sugar skulls, but instead of them being scary or dark they are brightly coloured, adorned with flowers and butterflies and celebrate the lives of those departed.
We looked at different aspect of sugar skulls, their intricacies and features and used different craft materials to make the amazing masterpieces that are now on show in our classroom …
