Fun and learning in the LSU 2 so far...
20th Nov 2024
September saw the opening of our Key Stage 2 Learning Support Unit and we have been very busy building our classroom environment to make it a welcoming, stimulating and sensory learning environment.
Our pupils have settled in so well and have been enjoying their learning experiences.
In literacy we have been focusing on procedural writing which provided us with lots of opportunities for sensory cookery. We have made pizza, hot chocolate, owl toast, Halloween treats and much more!
In numeracy we have enjoyed taking our learning outdoors to measure length and perimeter using a trundle wheel and metre stick. Linking to our first topic of 'All About Me' we have been learning to measure our body parts accurately and compared them for similarities and differences. We have had some very competitive games of 'Roll & Erase' in mental maths. To help develop our fine motor skills we have been using shapes to make pictures and build 3D shape nets.
Our pupils enjoy integration for some lessons such as PE and last week we took part in lots of activities and assemblies arranged by Mrs Dorrian for Anti-bullying Week.
In early November we learned about Bonfire night and created beautiful fireworks in art lessons.
In the lead up to Christmas we will be exploring our new topic of the Egyptians and also integrating plenty of Christmas themed learning into other curricular areas.
