Happy Easter

11th Apr 2020

I would like to take this opportunity, on behalf of all of the staff of St Mary’s Primary School, to wish everyone in our schooling community and all the people of Portaferry, a very Peaceful and Holy Easter. The circumstances this year are very different and we hope and trust that everyone is keeping safe and well.

Throughout Ireland tonight, homes are encouraged to “Shine Your Light” at 9.00pm by shining a light that can be seen from your home for all the people who are sick, those who have lost their lives and the loved ones who remain, reminding us that love and hope are always with us. It is also a means of thanking those people, at this time, who have come together, either in a voluntary or working capacity to provide the necessary care and assistance to everyone in our community and to those in our hospitals. Your efforts are most deeply appreciated by all. This concept links in with our school motto of “Light your light Shine” and we would encourage you to participate.

Since my last post on Thursday many of you continue to send in your comments and pictures. Thank you so much for this and keep them coming!  Braden (P2) has had a busy few days, doing Easter crafts and baking some buns for Easter. He also went to the beach with his sisters and dog Holly to play football. He tells me he misses all his classmates and can't wait to see them again soon. Ava (P3) continues to keep herself busy and is enjoying this good weather. Finally for today, Cormac (P1) got in touch to say that he has read The Hungry Caterpillar and been learning all about the lifecycle of a butterfly. He even found a caterpillar in his garden! He has also been busy practicing his words and writing Easter letters to his Grandparents. He has also been learning all about Easter using the Grow in Love website and even found time to made some salt-dough egg decorations.

Over Easter continue to send in your pictures. I may not be adding them every day but I will do throughout the week. Take care everyone.

Happy Easter
