Hard working boys!

17th Jan 2025
This week has been so busy for us with the highlight being our very first school trip to the Ulster Museum. This was such an exciting day for the boys and they learned so many interesting facts along side using thinking skills to work out the use of some artefacts. They had great fun joining with our P5 class to develop their social and communication skills.
They have also completed their Star reading tests on Accelerated Reader, showing great progress and this has been developed through our whole school focus on comprehension strategies. The boys have been working hard to develop their questioning skills  and making connections to help develop their comprehension.
Linking with our comprehension focus the boys have also started to learn some strategies to identify when they are feeling dysregulated using our 'Calm Plan'. To begin to recognise the stages of a 'Calm Plan' we are using a series of books 'Don't let the Pigeon' by Mo Williems, which demonstrate effectively how an individual can visibly move up and down the calm scale for a variety of reasons. The books identify signals that someone is escalating and highlights some triggers.
Cooper joined the yellow team this week as a leader to create a poster for their team, the 'Busy Bees Aim High'. He showed excellent leadership skills and enjoyed collaborating with others to create this wonderful poster.
This week we got to try out our new oven and baked flapjacks in Sensory Cookery, everyone loved our delicious treats.
The boys requested to carry out a 'Coke & Mentos' reaction they had seen online as their STEM task this week. They loved seeing the explosion of Coke, thankfully we carried out this experiment outside!
In Maths we have been developing our problem solving strategies and mental maths skills using Mathletics and written tasks. Well done to Oscar for achieving his first gold award this week and entering our Matheltics Hall of Fame!
