‘It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas’ in P4🎄
Another busy week in P4. Lots of singing of Christmas carols as the boys and girls made beautiful decorations and dressed the classroom. Prayers were said by the class crib, the little Christmas tree was set up and Santa made a magnificent appearance on the classroom door. The children also examined the artwork of Don Conroy and created their own Christmas wildlife masterpieces.
Work continued with lots of new spellings and focused on the ‘aw’ sound made using ‘o’, ‘aw’, ‘au’, ‘augh’ and ‘ough’. Grammar this week was all about extending sentences using conjunctions and writing focused on ‘Birthday Recounts’.
For Maths there was lots of revision of Subtraction with exchange as well as lots of practical problem solving when measuring a range of classroom items. The boys and girls got to grips with measuring using standard units for the first time and were soon very familiar with centimetres. They also checked out their ‘To do’ lists during Mathletics lessons with many having achieved bronze and silver certificates this week.
During WAU, the children looked at how the weather affects the seasons. They discussed how the evenings become darker so much earlier now than in the Summer. Road Safety calendars and Green Cross Code booklets were used to discover lots of ways to keep safe on foot, in the car and on the bus during the daytime and in the dark evenings.
Mrs O’Neill was so impressed with the behaviour and participation of P4 at mass today for the feast of The Immaculate Conception. It bodes very well for Holy Communion preparations in 2023. In the meantime, Father McGrady will be in school for Advent Confessions very soon and it would be a great help if the P4 parents could talk to the P4s about Confessions and say The Act of Sorrow together.
