Life skills and learning in LSU 2

12th Dec 2024

An important part of our curriculum in our Specialist Provision is to develop the children's 'life skills' and on Monday we went for a walk to Blaney's for a Christmas treat. During the walk we focused on safe road crossing, navigating obstacles along the way safely and heightening our awareness of stranger dangers and how to deal with unknown dogs. When we got to Blaney's we independently ordered our treat, calculated the cost and the change we would receive. We even helped Jessie clear the table afterwards. This was a wonderful morning and the boys were a credit to both their parents and the school as their manners and behaviour were exemplary.

In class we have also been working on our recount writing in literacy and have been able to sequence our daily schedule and write a detailed recount of our day in diary form.

We had a challenge to complete for our Christmas STEM activity of helping Santa get out of the chimney. The task was to find out should we push or pull him? We made models with play dough to test out our theory.

Cooper was very excited to see the results of his mummification experiment this week. It was amazing to see how well the fruit that had been in the salt had preserved!

In sensory cookery we made yummy snowmen to finish off a fun filled week!
