As part of our WAU topic, "An Gorta Mor" (The Great Hunger) and our English work we listened to the first chapter of Under the Hawthorn Tree - Children of the Famine.
The children worked in groups to write their thoughts and opinions on the text. They listed any questions they would like to find answers to, made some predictions and finally gave the first chapter a score out of ten.
Each group then presented their thoughts to the class.
To complete the activity the groups competed in a quiz on chapter one. Their were some tricky questions but all groups scored top marks, well done P7!
The children found this activity very beneficial as they shared thoughts and ideas and this helped their comprehension of the text.
