P3 and P5 topic walk around Portaferry

25th Sep 2024
Today primary 3 and primary 5 enjoyed a walk around Portaferry to support their WAU topics. P3 have been learning all about houses and homes and our local area in ‘Home Sweet Home’ and P5 have been learning about the world around them in their topic, ‘Wonderful me.’

We started off at the windmill hill, where we talked about signs of Autumn and discussed how we could use our senses to think of adjectives to describe things that we could see, hear, feel and smell.

We them walked up to the windmill where we enjoyed a maths challenge of counting our steps, windows, doors and doubled each number! On our walk to the shore, we counted the different types of houses. We noticed lots of detached, semi-detached, bungalows and terraced houses. As we walked along the shore we tried to spot even and odd numbers on the doors. There were lots of even numbers as we were on the right side of the street.

Our final challenge was to spot natural and man made materials but unfortunately we had to finish that off in class as we had to run to escape the rain! We had lots of fun, though!
