P3 and P6 use code to create a Microbit thermometer! 🌡 🖥
This week in P3 we have been learning all about the weather in World Around us and have been exploring temperature in Maths. To help us with our learning, some very special ICT helpers from P6 came to our classroom to show us how to create our own thermometers using a Microbit.
The P6s, who have been learning all about coding and Microbit in their ICT lessons, explained that a Microbit was a miniature computer that could be given instructions through code. They described code as a script that would tell the Microbit what to do.
In groups, the P6s helped the P3s to write code. They selected the right coding blocks to instruct the Microbit to show the temperature when button A was pressed. They then downloaded the code on to the Microbits and were ready to take the temperature.
In groups the children measured and recorded the temperature in three different locations: the classroom, the PE hall and outside. We then discussed which areas were the warmest and coolest, worked out the difference in temperature and discussed why some locations were warmer than others.
Both P3 and P6 had lots of fun developing their numeracy, ICT and communication skills. There are definitely some future coders in our school!
