P3 Artists in the Making
As part of our topic, we were learning about the artist Vincent van Gogh. We will learn more about him and his art throughout the year, but our focus this time was on his paintings of sunflowers. We started by doing a wash on our pages, choosing the colours we thought would work best as a background wall and table. It was tricky to make sure the brush was wet enough to spread well but wouldn't rip the paper. We had to use our brush carefully, only going in a sideways direction. Then we worked on our vase. We drew lines on the page to create sections and used pastels to colour them in a pattern, making sure to smudge the pastels before we cut out the vase shape. The flowers were tricky to draw so we took our time and worked in small groups to draw the sun shape and then make the pointy petals. We chose our own colours of pastels to complete the flowers, trying to keep them in the same colour family from light to dark and blending them on each petal. Once everything was done, we put it all together to create our final masterpieces. We are very proud of them!
