P3 ice discovery
On her way to school today, on a cold and icy morning, Mrs Gibson came across some mysterious eggs made of ice! She brought them into school so that we could explore them. They were beautiful. We used magnifying glasses to look closely at the patterns inside the egg. Some children thought it looked like a hedgehog inside because we could see spikes. Some thought it was like a Christmas tree or a snow globe. Then we added salt to the eggs to see what would happen and we saw that it fizzed and helped the ice egg to melt. The egg wasn't smooth anymore as it was starting to crack. Finally we dropped some food colouring onto the egg and saw that the food colouring got soaked into the ice. Now we are leaving them overnight to see what happens. We think they will melt and the water will be the colour of the food colouring.
