P3 STEM Challenge
Today we carried out our STEM week challenge in P3. We started the day by colouring in our rocket ships and cutting them out. Some children added the fire coming out of the bottom or an astronaut looking out of the window. Then we took a plastic pipette and measured it against the rocket ship, cutting off what we didn't need. We used sellotape to attach the pipette to the back of the rocket so it couldn't be seen. Later on in the day we took our creations to the PE hall to test. We had a go at launching our rockets, by blowing through a straw into the pipette, trying out different stategies to get them to go further. There was a lot of discussion and lots of opinion about what was best. Some children found kneeling helped to launch it as high as possible, some thought it best to launch it on land across the hall with a bent straw. We had a little fun competition for distance and our final 3 were Aidan, Lucy and Tom. Tom came third with 74cm, Lucy was second with a distance of 156cm and Aidan just took first place with 165cm. It was lots of fun!
