P4 are Mathematicians, Scientists, Poets and Historians!
Primary Four have had a brilliant week completing lots of problem solving Mathematical Investigations with numbers and coins. They used lots of thinking skills to figure out where digits and symbols are placed and realised that this makes such a difference to the outcome. They also worked so hard at home and in school on their ‘Sound of the Week’ and how the same sound can be made in lots of different ways using different letter combinations. Spelling work was a big element each day in class too as we used rainbow writing on ‘Try Sheets’ and completed scaffolded text work based on a ‘Flower Show’ which contained the new words. P4 really enjoyed the Eureka Seekers science morning. Chris and his little mini scientists had so much fun creating all sorts of potions. A special delivery to the classroom of our Road Safety calendar was a big hit as P4 found out about The Green Cross Code. For WAU they found out about a very brave lady called Grace Darling who lived a long time ago. They watched BBCTeach then read about her and had a chance to draw her dramatic rescue. During Art they also examined a painting of Donaghadee Harbour by Northern Irish artist Adrian Margey. They loved his use of colour and hope to paint their own versions soon. The boys and girls also enjoyed creating a whole class poem based on ‘The Sea’. Such great adjectives and handwriting was on show in this lesson and during comprehension work too. On our Daily Mile this week they popped up to the windmill on the hill to get a good vantage point of The Narrows and out to The Irish Sea. They also dandered through the school garden and spotted some ripe apples and pears in the orchard. What a busy week P4 have had. They are looking forward to High Five Friday tomorrow and the return of fabulous homework!
