P4 October excitement!

6th Oct 2022

Another very busy week in P4 as they began the month of October. The boys and girls definitely immersed themselves in all things ‘Mathletics’ from completing their ‘To do’ list to investigating the many wonderful activities in their ‘Explore’ and ‘Play’ sections. Lots of Mental Maths ‘in their heads’, on IPads, school computers and home devices as well as lots more textbook work too. They certainly are marvellous mathematicians!

Spellings took on the ‘ay’ sound made in lots of different ways like ‘a, ay, ai, a-e and ey’. Such a lot to remember but with lots of ‘Try sheets’ and scaffolded text work they are getting there. Writing this week focused on proper sentence structure remembering capital letters, full stops and spacing whilst using lots of interesting words. Our Procedural Writing was all about following instructions on ‘How to make a model lighthouse’ and ‘How to sew a felt Sea Creature’. Mrs O’Neill can’t wait to see all the amazing lighthouses and sea creatures for our final ‘Rescue at Sea’ display.

For WAU this week they read a lovely story called ‘Going green with Constantine’. It told of the importance of keeping our seas, oceans, lakes and loughs pollution free and mentioned how green energy can be produced from the land and sea in an environmentally friendly way. P4 just loved Constantine the big pink octopus. They think he would make a super classroom mascot! They also learned lots of new facts about the RNLI as they watched ‘Gecko meets a lifeboat’.

Their Religion programme ‘Grow in Love’ was all about Jesus helping Simon-Peter’s mother in law who had been ill. The children read the story, watched the video and completed some word work on the topic. They also worked on some lovely artwork based on Mary and The Rosary for tomorrow’s mass.

Finally this week, P4 really enjoyed speaking to Sr. Cooey when she visited the classroom and told them all about her life in the convent and her work in the community.

It will be another busy week next week as the boys and girls begin their very exciting ‘Accelerated Reader’ journey so lots more lovely reading of all sorts of books. Exciting times ahead!
