P4 Problem Solvers!🌟
Primary Four used lots of practical, interactive and written strategies to reinforce their Mathematical topics this half term. The children realised the need to use standard measures like centimetres as they investigated many ‘Measuring Worms’ games where they had to order the worms from shortest to longest, longest to shortest and then measure each one of them in centimetres. They also used their new 30cm rulers to complete a ‘Measure a Fish Tank’ activity where they estimated and then measured a range of fish, depths of water, widths of chests and heights of divers.
‘Telling the Time’ also played a big part this half term as P4 used their individual analogue clocks, classroom clock, digital clocks and ‘Time’ activities on Mathletics to examine o’clock, half past, quarter to and quarter past. They have also begun to look at digital time in 5 minute intervals.
All this on top of lots of written methods for vertical addition and subtraction. Please see our ‘Developing Written Calculations’ document and ‘Mental Maths’ pamphlets on the school website, should you or your child need support in these areas. Find them by clicking on ‘Our School’ then ‘Curriculum’.
Thanks to the hard work of the children, the wonderful support from Mary in class and parents at home with home link and Mathletics activities, Mrs O’Neill is delighted with the progress. Keep up the marvellous maths P4!🌟
