P4 visit Portaferry Lifeboat Station
As part of their WAU topic ‘Rescue at Sea’, the P4 children visited Portaferry Lifeboat Station for workshops on ‘Water Safety’. First they watched a presentation which was all about the RNLI, their rescues, their boats and tips on what to do in an emergency. Then they joined in with some flotation and buoyancy exercises. After that they paired up in a ‘Spot the Dangers’ activity. Finally, the best and most exciting part!!! The boys and girls got to meet some of the lifeboat crew, tried on their equipment and got into the ‘Blue Peter V’ rescue boat which is based in Portaferry. A big thank you to everyone from Portaferry Lifeboat Station who facilitated the workshops and gave the children a special ‘Sea Safety’ bag of goodies to take home with them. Mrs O’Neill and Colette were more than impressed with the knowledge of the children, their listening skills, teamwork and their kindness to everyone.
Well done also to those P4 children who have completed their S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) ‘Lighthouse’ challenge at home. Remember to bring your creation into class before the end of half term.
