Pancake Fractions in P4!
In preparation for Pancake Tuesday, the boys and girls in P4 were able to learn about fractions. We talked about halves, quarters and eighths and how the slices became smaller as we divided up each pancake. Some of the boys and girls were able to say that two quarters were the same as one half and that two eighths were the same as one quarter. We recognised that 2, 4, 8 and 16 are numbers which are very often connected in Maths. We talked about doubling, halving, equivalence and even tessellation in this lesson. We were surprised at how much maths came from a simple pancake. We all hope that lots of boys and girls in all classes can talk about and enjoy their pancakes in lots of ways this week.
