Procedural Writing With Games
This week we started our lessons on Procedural Writing by reading the instructions for Snakes and Ladders together and discussing them. We spotted the bossy words being used (move, roll, take etc). Then we had a go at following the rules. We had to stop and chat because some people had misunderstood and so we re-read them until we were clear what to do. The next day we got to be inventors. We were given a blank board game and we got to make up our own game on a racetrack. We did this with a partner. We had great fun making up our own ideas like go forward 4 or miss a turn and then we got to play the game that we had made up. This was a good way to see if our game worked or if we needed to change anything.
