Today the boys and girls in Nursery joined up with the children in Primary One to welcome special visitors to our school. They were very excited to sit on the mat in the P1 classroom! Mary and Catherine told the boys and girls all about the special crosses that Saint Brigid herself made. While they talked to us, they were busy making crosses. The children were fascinated to see them being made in front of them. The ladies told the children, how Saint Brigid loved animals and nowadays people very often put a St. Brigid cross in barns or sheds to protect their animals . They brought some crosses that were already finished and while they were working on new ones, we passed the other ones around for the children to see them. We also listened to the story of Saint Brigid’s cloak and coloured in our own version of this. Our crosses will be blessed by Father McGrady at mass this week and then they will take pride of place in our classrooms. We would like to thank Mary and Catherine for giving up their time to come and see us today. We really enjoyed their visit!
