STEM Float or Sink Experiment
21st Jan 2025
For our STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) lesson last week, we conducted an experiment to discover which classroom items would float and which would sink. The children began by making predictions about the various objects, such as paperclips, sand timers and even simple classroom toys like dinosaurs. With eager anticipation, they tested their hypotheses, carefully placing each item into a basin of water. This hands on experiment encouraged our pupils to engage in critical thinking and problem solving. The children also discussed how the results might change if they used different materials and objects, fostering an understanding of variables in scientific experiments. The joy and enthusiasm in the classroom was magnificent, and the children are excited about their next experiment.
