Super start to the new half term in SPSC 2
The boys in our Specialist Provision have enjoyed lots of active learning this week through STEM, ICT & numeracy.
As our new literacy writing focus is explanation writing we have been integrating explanations in to as many lessons as possible, explanations lend perfectly to STEM lessons. This week we made a ‘walking rainbow’ where we explained how the water travelled through absorption. Building on this in literacy we studied the water cycle through videos and looking at our weather, we could see heavy rain one minute and sun heating the puddles creating water vapour the next! Then we recorded our explanations of the water cycle through pictures and writing.
Cooper enjoyed learning how to programme a Sphero in ICT. He had great fun using it to demolish buildings he had made and explaining how he could navigate pathways around objects.
Oscar was learning about place value this week and was confident in showing large numbers using dienes and competently used decomposition to show the value of numbers.
We decided to give our taste buds a new sensory experience this week as we made Chilli Con Carne. The boys showed great attention to detail chopping the vegetables finely and measuring all the ingredients accurately. Although the spice wasn’t to everyone’s pleasing it was enjoyed by most!
We continued to develop our social and communication skills through playing word games and Lego Club. Playing games can be tricky to do without building the skills to navigate frustration and build trusting relationships with our peers. The boys are working hard to develop these skills and learn to deal with dysregulation.
