Up, up and away in P1 🚀🚀🚀
This is our special St. Mary’s STEM week. Every class is learning all about flight. In P1 our challenge was to make a rocket from a paper template, a pipette, cellotape and a straw. After we coloured the rocket we stuck the pipette on the back using cellotape and then put a straw inside the pipette.
There was a lot of learning as we discovered that when we blew into the straw, the air from our lungs made the rockets fly into the air. The harder we blew the further the rocket flew! When we put our heads back, the rockets flew higher!
Mrs Breen blew into a pipette which had no paper rocket attached and Maol was able to tell us that it was because the pipette was lighter that it flew further.
We had a competition outside to see who could make their rockets fly the furthest and the highest ~ there was certainly lots of Science Technology Engineering and Maths going on in P1 today!!
