Winter in P1
We have had so much fun during playtime in P1. We have been learning all about winter and needed to think about how we could set up our role play area. We talked about having fun in the winter, different winter sports and decided that we would love to make an ice rink!!!! Have a look at the fab photos showing us learning and being curious; using our senses to explore and respond and acting out the role of the ice skating attendants, employees and skaters….We had to be able to take our shoes off and measure our feet to see what size ice skates we would need. We skated and played ice hockey with a puck and a stick and recorded the scores on the scoreboard. We made a popcorn machine and an ice maker. In the Rink Cafe we sold pretzels cookies and hot drinks. We also made signs for the Ice rink telling everyone that only 2 people are allowed on the ice at once! There was so much learning involved in this role play area!
Mrs Breen put ice, shaving foam and penguins in the water tray and we raced them on the ice as they used their bellies to slip and slide.
We had blue sand and marine polar animals in the sand tray and we learned the names of creatures like walrus and narwhal.
In loose parts we had white polystyrene cubes and cocktail sticks … check out the wonderful igloos we made by attaching the cubes together using the sticks!
In our sensory tray we made snow dough using talcum powder and shampoo - it smelled delicious!
We made play dough and used winter craft accessories to create snowflakes and patterns.
What wonderful winter work!!!
