World Maths Day!🌟
Our pupils are very excited about World Maths Day on Wednesday. They have been working so hard as they prepare to apply their Numeracy skills both inside and outside the classroom. We have lots of exciting activities planned for school and home. P4 have been busy getting ready with some of their ‘Maths Buddies’. They are also loving their new Division topic and really enjoyed using manipulatives with a few extra treats!
Parents of P3-P6 pupils, we need your help to ensure that all our P3-P6 children log on to Mathletics at home and complete various Live Maths challenges at different levels. Parents of all year groups, please use this week to really talk to your child about their Maths homework and work on their ‘Maths Talk’. Tell the time together, name and count coins, let your child pay for something small at the till, talk about totals and change when you are shopping, look at containers and fill them up to different levels, measure using rulers, string or even pasta pieces, name 2d and 3d shapes in the environment or at home. Talk about Maths words like before, after, between, above, below, full, empty, more than, less than, equal to, addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as applicable per class. Say nursery rhymes or sing Times Tables songs. Enjoy a Spring walk together. How many leaves, pine cones, twigs can you collect? How many flowers or trees can you spot? How many different coloured cars, signposts etc can you see on the way? How many steps can you walk? How many star jumps? How many skips with a skipping rope?
‘Maths Talk’ and Outdoor Maths Learning are both so important for all age groups. We look forward to presenting our pupils with some beautiful World Maths Day certificates at the end of the week. Good luck everyone!🌟
